MANDATE OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES IN NAMIBIA

Eenhana Town Council, just like other Local Authorities in Namibia is established by the Act of Parliament, Act 23 of 1992. Local Authorities are a 3rd tier of Government, responsible for service delivery in urban areas. The Governing body of a Local Authority is a Council, which is consisted of elected office bearers

Some of the responsibilities of the Local Authorities are as follows:

  • Water provision
  • Sewerage and drainage
  • Electricity provision
  • Roads and road infrastructure development
  • Parks, Cemeteries and public places
  • Housing schemes
  • Public amenities
  • Economic planning and development
  • Environment management and protection
  • Waste Management
  • Disease prevention and vector control
  • Finance planning and management
